One for the World
The world is wealthier today than at any other point in human history, yet nearly one in ten people still live in extreme poverty—that is, on less than $1.90 per day, adjusted for the local cost of living. Many people want to help alleviate and eventually eradicate the suffering and injustice of extreme poverty but hesitate because they don't know how. The problem can seem large, distant, and complex. One for the World is an organization that uses rigorous, data-driven charity selection to recommend the most effective nonprofit partners that have proven their ability to use individual donations to make a meaningful positive difference in others’ lives. By pledging to give 1% or more of your income to these effective charities, you can positively impact others’ lives.

Your Extraordinary Potential
The median HLS graduate is among the wealthiest people in the world, earning more in their first year of work after graduation than many people alive today will earn in their lifetimes. By donating just a small fraction of that income, members of our community can make a tremendous positive difference in others’ lives. For example, GiveWell estimates that one of One for the World’s Top Picks, the Against Malaria Foundation, can save a life by spending an average of just $5,500 distributing basic medical supplies in the places they are needed most. That means that the median HLS graduate who pledges just 1% of their income after graduation can have the effect of saving a life after about two years of work.
